The upcoming presidential election is literally right around the corner and it goes without saying that we have to make sure our voices are heard. 

While voting is our fundamental right, it has come under attack and voter suppression is real out here. This includes some of the myths and misconceptions that have been circulating for years; some of which you may have heard before.

Here are a few important facts to dispel the hearsay that may have otherwise prevented you, or someone you know, from heading to the polls this year.

MYTH #1: “I can’t register to vote because I’ve been convicted of a crime and spent time in prison.”
FACT: In most states, once you have finished your time, your time in prison should have NO effect on registering to vote.

MYTH #2: “I do not have a state-issued ID, so I can’t register to vote.”
FACT: While many states may require a photo ID to cast a vote, you do not need one to register.

MYTH #3: “I cannot register to vote because I do not have a permanent address.
FACT: Listing a street corner or park as your residence is recommended. If you reside at a shelter and receive mail there, list the address of the shelter.

MYTH#4: “I do not need to update my voter registration because I only moved across town.”
FACT:  Anytime your address changes, you should re-register to vote.
