June 4th is recognized as Clean Beauty Day and while it seems like beauty is the last thing we should be focused on right now, I am here to tell you that it is essential.  Beauty products and regimens play a huge role in our ability to practice adequate self-care; something we could all use during times that threaten to leave us on empty mentally, physically, and spiritually.  It can be seriously draining.

This year, in honor of Clean Beauty Day we are bringing you a roundup of brands and products that are either by people of color or were created for people of color (and sometimes both).  This list also includes products and brands whose mission it is to provide products with quality, clean, non-toxic ingredients and materials. It doesn’t hurt that most of them are pocket-friendly too.

1.   Club Loofah

Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, exfoliation is a must.  When you join, this monthly subscription service delivers loofahs and other premium bath products right to your door!

2.   Be Transcendent

3.   The Honey Pot Co.

The first complete feminine care system powered by herbs.

4.   Black Girl Sunscreen

Finally a sunscreen for melanated skin, full of natural ingredients but, without the white residue.

Price: $10 to $25

5.  Posh Candle Co.

Because nothing says relaxation and self-care like lit soy candles.

Price: varies; see website

6.   BLK + GRN

Your one-stop shop for natural products by black artisans.

Sometimes we feel pressured to do, be, and say all the things society desires of us but, remember to put yourself first with no apologies. Rest when you need to.  Get up and check something off your to-do list when you need to.  Find ways to rejuvenate and unplug when you have to.  You can’t pour from an empty cup.

What are some of your favorite self-care products?
